The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) have signed a trilateral contribution agreement to support the United Nations Transforming Education Summit (TES).

The event took place between 16 and 19 September 2022 at the UNHQ in New York, with UNESCO acting as the Secretariat of the Summit. The Summit brought together heads of states and governments, the global education community and youth to elevate education to the top of political agendas, secure commitments to recover pandemic losses and ignite a global movement to support the transformation of education across the world.

QFFD and EAA collectively committed to $1.6m towards promoting the five Thematic Action Tracks of the Summit, which focus on critical topics that require global collective attention to accelerate progress towards achieving SDG 4 that aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.

The five Action Tracks cover the following areas: 1) equitable, safe and healthy schools; 2) learning and skills for life, work and sustainable development; 3) teachers, teaching and the teaching profession; 4) digital learning; and 5) education financing, both domestic and international.

The Deputy Director-General of Planning at QFFD, Mr Ali Abdulla Al Dabbagh, said, “QFFD is committed to contribute to education initiatives and efforts such as the contribution to UNESCO. The Action Tracks initiated by UNESCO go in parallel with QFFD’s efforts in education, which are set to address three key focus areas, firstly to provide access to out-of-school children and youth to receive an education.”

From her side, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education, Ms Stefania Giannini, made the following announcement, “We are very grateful for the longstanding support of Qatar to the TES, which we hope will be a turning-point for education and the foundation for inclusive, sustainable development. We are happy to sign today this agreement with Qatar Fund for Development and Education Above All.’’
