World Arabic Language Day: Celebrating Language, Cultures, and Heritage

The celebration of World Arabic Language Day on 18 December 2023, themed "Arabic - the Language of Poetry and Arts," held immense significance. Honoring the 50th anniversary of Arabic as one of the United Nations' official languages, UNESCO convened at its Paris Headquarters. The event brought together diverse stakeholders to explore Arabic's influence on knowledge formation, societal transformations through poetry, and its impact on arts.

This commemorative event featured enlightening roundtable discussions focusing on Arabic poetry's role in shaping knowledge, its intersection with various artistic expressions, and the 'Arab Latinos!' connection, exploring Arabic influences in Latin America and the Caribbean.

An engaging exhibition held from 18 to 22 December showcased impactful projects aimed at advancing the Arabic language under Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Programme for the Arabic Language at UNESCO. This exhibition highlighted the programme's commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue, enriching linguistic diversity, and promoting knowledge dissemination in Arabic.

These two impactful events, the Regional Expert Conference and World Arabic Language Day celebrations, underline a shared commitment to nurturing the Arabic language's significance globally. They reinforce the Arabic language’s role in cultural exchange, societal inclusion, and preserving rich heritage, ultimately contributing to a more interconnected and diverse world.
