In a joint effort to address educational challenges, UNESCO and the General Directorate of Education in Baghdad Governorate (Karkh 3) embarked on 5 October 2023 a significant initiative – the “Back to School Campaigns.”
This initiative is part of the broader project titled “Improving Access to Quality and Inclusive Education with Gender Equality for Out-of-School Children in Babil and Baghdad Governorates, Iraq.” Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, this project represents a proactive step towards ensuring access to quality education, specifically focusing on gender equality.
The primary objective of these door-to-door campaigns is to identify and engage with children who have either dropped out-of-school or are at the risk of doing so. The ultimate goal is to reintegrate them into the education system, offering them a chance for a brighter future. Particularly targeting areas such as Al-Hurriya, the campaign has already reached several families, extending its efforts to encourage out-of-school children to return to schooling.
The campaign has already engaged several families in the Al-Hurriya area and will extend its reach to other parts of the country in forthcoming days to actively encourage children who are currently out of school or at risk of dropping out to return to school. As a crucial component of this effort, detailed records of enrolled children are being meticulously maintained in a comprehensive database. This strategic approach is designed to streamline and enhance the provision of continuous assistance and support for these students throughout the entire academic year. The campaign's commitment to reaching out to various communities reflects a dedication to ensuring that no child is left behind, emphasizing the importance of accessible and inclusive education.
