UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning celebrates 60 years of transformative impact

The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 8-9 November 2023, marking six decades of dedicated support to countries in planning and managing their education systems. The 60th Anniversary Symposium, hosted both in Paris, France, and online, served as a momentous occasion for reflection on the Institute's significant milestones and as a platform to envision the future of educational planning.
The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 8-9 November 2023, marking six decades of dedicated support to countries in planning and managing their education systems. The 60th Anniversary Symposium, hosted both in Paris, France, and online, served as a momentous occasion for reflection on the Institute's significant milestones and as a platform to envision the future of educational planning.
Experts, policy-makers, leaders, planners, and UNESCO Member State representatives from around the world convened during the symposium to gain insights into how the IIEP is actively reshaping educational planning. The discussions encompassed six key planning and management areas critical to the evolving landscape of education. These areas included harnessing digital technology for transformative educational experiences, addressing the learning crisis, promoting gender and equity in education, navigating challenges related to crises, displacement, and climate change, enhancing planning and management strategies for improved learning outcomes, ensuring governance, transparency, and financial sustainability, and equipping students with the necessary skills for the future.
The symposium provided an insight into the IIEP's journey and charted a forward-looking path, considering emerging trends and perspectives in educational planning.

Insights from Tarbiyah21 Repository webinar series

The UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Beirut recently hosted a series of webinars, as part of the Tarbiyah21 Repository of Teaching and Learning Practices’ project, aimed at improving education quality across the Arab world. The series, which ran from September to December 2023, covered a range of critical topics, including Quality Teaching and Learning (6 September), Promoting Arabic Literacy (7 September), Digital Transformation of Education (24 October), Education for Sustainable Development/Greening Education (28 November) and Teacher Professional Development (12 December).

UNESCO- Iraq's Ministry of Education transforming vocational education

UNESCO's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, in collaboration with Iraq's Ministry of Education and supported generously by the EU, has played a pivotal role in enhancing vocational education and employability in the country. Focusing on five “Pilot” schools in Erbil, Mosul, Baghdad, Karbala, and Basra, the initiative aims to transform these institutions into Centers of Vocational Excellence.
