UNESCO's Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), along with UNESCO offices in Beirut, Cairo, Doha, and Rabat, hosted a regional conference for the Arab region to discuss the implementation and monitoring of the Marrakech Framework for Action (MFA), which was adopted at the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII) hosted by Morocco from 15 to 17 June 2022. The framework sets out a pathway for effective adult learning and education policies and practices over the next decade, with an emphasis on equity, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
The regional conference gathered various stakeholders involved in lifelong learning and adult education in the Arab region to determine which tools and procedures were necessary for the creation of integrated lifelong learning systems. The attendees evaluated current gaps, priorities, and needs in line with the MFA recommendations. Moreover, the participants highlighted what successful practices and novel ideas had been implemented in the domain of adult learning and education and concluded the meeting by agreeing on a regional supervisory process to track the progress of MFA implementation.
