UNESCO Mission to Sana’a, Yemen, to Advance Quality Education and Reinforce Cultural Heritage Protection

A team from UNESCO visited Sana'a, Yemen, where the organization is actively involved in preserving the country's unique cultural heritage and building the resilience of local communities affected by the ongoing conflict. This includes providing heritage job opportunities to 14,000 young Yemenis between 2018 and 2026.
A team from UNESCO visited Sana'a, Yemen, where the organization is actively involved in preserving the country's unique cultural heritage and building the resilience of local communities affected by the ongoing conflict. This includes providing heritage job opportunities to 14,000 young Yemenis between 2018 and 2026.

In the field of education, UNESCO is supporting the review of Yemen's current Transitional Education Plan and the development of the national Education Sector Plan for 2024-2030. UNESCO is also providing support for the development and roll-out of the Education Management Information System (EMIS). The UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Beirut is assessing further education needs in Yemen with a view to scaling up support.

In the same context, UNESCO-Beirut organised a workshop on 9 June bringing together experts and Ministry of Education technical staff to develop a roadmap for a comprehensive Education Management Information System (EMIS) in Yemen.

UNESCO will continue to stand with the people of Yemen in strengthening the foundations of dialogue, peace and education in all the areas of its mandate.

Insights from Tarbiyah21 Repository webinar series

The UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Beirut recently hosted a series of webinars, as part of the Tarbiyah21 Repository of Teaching and Learning Practices’ project, aimed at improving education quality across the Arab world. The series, which ran from September to December 2023, covered a range of critical topics, including Quality Teaching and Learning (6 September), Promoting Arabic Literacy (7 September), Digital Transformation of Education (24 October), Education for Sustainable Development/Greening Education (28 November) and Teacher Professional Development (12 December).

UNESCO- Iraq's Ministry of Education transforming vocational education

UNESCO's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, in collaboration with Iraq's Ministry of Education and supported generously by the EU, has played a pivotal role in enhancing vocational education and employability in the country. Focusing on five “Pilot” schools in Erbil, Mosul, Baghdad, Karbala, and Basra, the initiative aims to transform these institutions into Centers of Vocational Excellence.
